Religious Accommodation Procedures
Requesting an Accommodation
Any faculty, staff, or student-employee may request a religious accommodation by completing the Illinois State University Request for Religious Accommodation form and returning it to the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access (OEOA) at least 30 days prior to the desired accommodation.
Request FormIn determining whether to honor the request for accommodation, the Director of the OEOA, or designee, in conjunction with the employee's immediate supervisor, chair, or director, will identify the essential functions and core work-related duties of the employee's job position, assess the impact of the requested accommodation on the essential functions of the employee's work-related responsibilities, and assess the impact of any potential undue hardship the accommodation may create to the employing unit and/or university business.
Notification and Implementation of an Accommodation
The faculty, staff, or student-employee making the reasonable accommodation request will be notified, in writing, by the Director of the OEOA of the determination and, if granted, the details of the reasonable accommodation. The requesting employee's supervisor will ensure the religious accommodation is effective.
Record Retention
Completed Request for Religious Accommodation forms, regardless if granted or denied, and materials related to an employee's religious accommodation request will remain on file with the OEOA for 5 years and will not be filed with University Office of Human Resources documents.
